Hauz Khas Village – A Sophisticated GB Road

It is, isn’t it?

What once used to be an actual village of sorts, which then turned into a hot spot of up and coming designers, and eventually the mecca of nightlife in Delhi is now merely a shadow of what it used to be, of what it represented. What it represented was a great amalgamation of multiple cultures, which Delhi anyway is, where different tribes of people would come together to create a unique experience never known before to a Delhiite.

Hauz Khas Village

What Hauz Khas Village is today is the perfect example how something reaches its saturation point and burns out. It happens to places like this and it happens to people as well. HKV today is like that super brilliant scientist who goes crazy after one super invention and roams around the streets drunk and half naked giving blowjobs for crack.

Hauz Khas Village has become a nightmare. From the parking to the crowd to the bouncers, nothing works in favour of a place that used to be a second home to many of Delhi’s elites. It was no surprise to spot actors from Bollywood or small time politicians enjoying a Sunday brunch on one of the many rooftop cafes in the area. Now what we see are unruly men and women simply too late to join the bandwagon giving the ‘high life’ their best shot.

As you enter the lane leading up to the entrance of Hauz Khas Village, midway you are greeted by burly unkempt men manning police barriers yelling at autorickshaws to dare not cross their lakshman rekha lest they wanted to get beaten up in full public view. Mind you, these are not cops, these are not bouncers; these are goondas given authority by the locals to do as they please in the name of maintaining law and order.

Of course, the cops are all probably a part of the scam as well. At least a thousand drunk men and women leave that place to head home or some after party at Sainik Farms but nowhere do you see the men in uniform actually ever doing anything about it. I wonder, at times, after reading multiple reports of road accidents in Delhi that how many of these people were in Hauz Khas Village before they decided to drive drunk?

Parking has always been a pain in the area given the design and the single road approach to Hauz Khaz Village, but it has grown beyond being just a problem anymore. On a Saturday night, one needs to take into consideration the time one spends parking the car and getting it out that a good 2 hours are taken up just for that. And this gave rise to our favourite spot: Summer House Café.

It is a mini Hauz Khas Village in itself and it didn’t take more than 6 months to become a shit hole that Hauz Khas Village already was. Merely 2 months back it was a place where one could go to avoid the madness that was HKV, it’s now become even worse than some of the crappiest places down the road. The bouncers and the so called ‘manager’ at the counter at the entrance size up chicks as they walk in with their boy toys and the firangi ass licking they do is on another level altogether. The drinks are shabby and the crowd is full of guys spending money to get their girls drunk so that they could hook up. If you want to be entertained, you should just wait downstairs after the place shuts down and just listen to people talk and make plans for the night. From the guy who now knows the Wimpy’s chap by name given that he comes there regularly to the Sangam Vihar businessman who has come here for the first time with some girls in his daddy’s car; everyone acts like such a douchebag that it is cringe worthy at times.

Now coming to the title of the blog. What is GB Road? It’s Delhi’s red light area where women work by having sex with men for money. And what is Hauz Khaz Village? It’s Delhi’s disco light area where men work their asses off to get their girls into bed with them by spending money on shitty drinks and getting them drunk.

GB Road

There may be nothing bad about either of the places, I’m sure, but at least let’s accept that this is how it is. And you know the only difference between the two places?

You check in at Hauz Khas Village, and, well, you don’t at GB Road unless you’re the proudest most bad ass pimp Delhi has ever seen!

  1. Bravo friend! Bravo! Thank you for saying it for all of us.
Did you forget the free drinks every place in HKV is giving out - "ladies night, ladies night, ladies night", sounds like "paanch ka teen, paanch ka teen, paanch ka teen."
    Down to the dogs!

  5. I see this as a writing of a frustrated person. No personal bias or hard feelings against you but this is an. Over-over exaggeration. 80% things you have written are just in your mind! Whatever reason it is for. I can vouch personally that Summer house is one of the best places to go out on any given day! They have great music and experience for their customers. HKV traffic is a big problem yes, but which restaurant asks you to drive till the barrier. Park anywhere and walk up a mile and i promise you will get to those places with a better appetite. HKV maybe expensive yes, food may not be great everywhere yes, but that's how it is, take it or leave it. Those places though are not responsible for how people behave after drinking. If so many cars ( including yours I am presuming) get in line to park themselves there day in and day out That means people love the place and are ready to waste fuel and time to get there for the experience.

I would just tell you take a chill pill. Stop naming and shaming for no good reason and party at CP or pahad Gunj or gurgaon or noida. Don't go to HKV or SHC and you will live happily. My 0.02$

  8. You nailed it, Sir. Hat-tip to you! Over-hyping a place does this, especially if done on a scale like this. Its sad to see places like Kunzum Travel Cafe and that sweet Bistro losing business to what can only be described as swill-factories.

  9. Maya first i would like to ask you how many times you have been to HKV? I have gone there many times and at times with my male and female friends and even with my cousins so regardless of your judgemental tone .i guess its just your experience there ..its not the same for everyone..So lets just be objective anf dont over exagerrate things to calling names like "GB road"

    1. This whole blog of mine is based on the exaggerated version of the truth. And I've been there plenty of times with all kinds of people to have an educated opinion about the place. And what's wrong with GB road? :O

  10. Maya...or what ever your real name is. With this blog it's very evident that you are frustrated. You sound like a member of bajrang dal (by which I mean like someone who makes no sense). Firstly wrong choice of word dude .......what's with GB road ?? (Again your explanation for it makes no sense). Secondly you cannot bad mouth a place because you think that the guys paying for their girl's drink just to get them drunk and take undue advantage. I am sure you haven't seen a man forcing a drink down a girl's throat. And what they do after that is dude none of your damn business!! Parking in HKV has been a pain area but if hundreds of people don't mind waiting an hour or so for it then I am sure they think the place is worth it. But again why do you care ??? Simply don't go ....it's simple ..no rocket science. if I know that the parking is a mess in old delhi then it's simple I don't take my car rather use public transport.
Maya I think you understand that it's very easy to exaggerate things, like someone in the previous comments said take a Chill Pill. HKV has changed the way we party , there used to be times when we used to pay anywhere between 2000-5000 Rs just to enter a club. It is not the case now.
The only thing I agree with you is the drink and driving part rest all is utter non sense. I live very close to HKV and I have seen HKV EVOLVE. and if you ask me between now and then I like the present HKV.

    3. Seriously ?? You have quite an elitist mindset dude, like how when masses start going to a place you be like 'the crowd is so substandard'. I am just assuming this because most of your rants are not real issues except the parking but then where is parking not an issue in delhi ?
That GB road comparison was too much of a long shot man.

    4. I still don't get why people are so mad about the fact that I compared it to GB Road. WHat's so wrong with the place. It is just a holesale market. I mean, wholesale market.

  12. maya there is some reason people love to go there with the fact that its expensive or crowded or whatsoever. You don't get the stamp posted on your wrist i guess because of your profile :p it is a mad house but yes, delhiites love it and even you should. And look at it as the businesses of people and their creativity that you have such a place in delhi to hangout.

  19. mr. maya every individual has his/her opinion so probably you cannot force someone to go with your opinion and honestly the comparison which you've done shows that you literally hate the place. Its ok there is nothing wrong in liking or hating, but when you don't like HKV don't visit HKV. Your article clearly shows how frustrated you are.
but reading your article makes me to think that 'tu HKV gaya tune ladki ko daaru pilayi tere paisey lutey or wo tujhe laat maarke chali gayi fir tu pareshaan hogaya or tu gb road gaya wahan tujhe ladki ne peelyai or tujhe laat ni padhi but paisey fir bhi lutey but tere but parking ki dikkat ni huyi tujhe."

  23. Maya bhai! Bilkul sahi likha. This is clearly a reflection of what it was to what it is now. The people dissing this article clearly have not experienced what it was and have known this place to always be how it is. What used to be a laid back, silent, cultured, chill place has now become noisy, like any other "commercial" place. From artists displaying their creativity with boutique shops to alcohol fueled frenzy. Indie bands to bad dubstep. From Hauz Khas "VILLAGE" to ECH KAY VEE? It has become a place of business. Pyure Binnus. All the guys who can't see that in the article should go to Meherchand market. There's still some quiet there that you can experience for yourself and write an article like this in a couple of years, when it becomes MCM. PRKizzle
